MAPUA celebrates a century of excellence
MANILA, Philippines - The 100th anniversary of Mapúa University, a trailblazer in engineering and technology education in the Philippines, was commemorated with a vibrant event that highlighted the institution's rich history and forward-thinking philosophy.
Under the direction of President Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo, the celebrations gave teachers, students, and alumni an opportunity to reflect on the university's century-long quest for excellence.
Highlighting Mapúa's close ties to its intellectual and cultural traditions, the week-long celebration featured a number of interesting events, including the inauguration of Centennial Square, the Eugene Torre Chess Cup, a big parade, and a number of thought-provoking talks.
In addition to these celebrations, Mapúa launched a number of significant projects for its centennial. The publication of Dr. Reynaldo Vea's book, A History of Futures Past, which chronicles his tenure as university president, was a noteworthy occasion. The unveiling of a Centennial Monument, a lively alumni reunion, and a Thanksgiving Gala that brought people from all over the world together were other noteworthy events. By securing a spot in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) and winning the NCAA Season 100 basketball championship, a long-awaited accomplishment, the university further demonstrated its growing global reach.
Dr. Maestrecampo asserted Mapúa would continue to carry on with the legacy despite pooling its history, through embrace of innovative teaching approaches and technology in the coming years.
The university plans to offer students affordable online learning opportunities to provide them with opportunities for higher education throughout the country. That's the way forward for Mapúa as it further grounds the integration of AI in its curriculum, preparing a generation of tech-savvy individuals to thrive in an AI-powered world. It is also updating its digital resources to enhance student support and course participation.
In his vision of the next century, Mapúa places a strong emphasis on innovation, inclusivity, and preparing students for the future. To give senior high school students the opportunity to earn college credits ahead of time, the institution plans to expand its advanced placement program.
Through industry-specific programs and micro-credentials, the school also aims to improve the abilities of professionals and students. With its 100th year ahead of it, Mapúa is ready to keep changing the worldwide landscape of education, innovation, and cooperation.
