Trump Gives Iran 48-Hour Hormuz Ultimatum

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that failure to comply could trigger strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure.

The warning came as tensions sharply escalated, with Iran launching missile attacks on Israel that caused significant damage in southern areas, including residential zones in Dimona and Arad.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed continued military action, as Israeli forces carried out retaliatory strikes targeting sites in Tehran.

Iran, for its part, said the attacks were in response to earlier strikes on its nuclear facilities, including the sensitive Natanz site. The International Atomic Energy Agency has since called for restraint to avoid a potential nuclear-related incident.

The standoff has disrupted global oil flows, with the Strait of Hormuz—responsible for a significant portion of the world’s crude supply—effectively shut, sending prices soaring above $100 per barrel.

Several countries, including European and Middle Eastern allies, have condemned the closure of the vital waterway and expressed readiness to ensure safe maritime passage as fears of a wider regional conflict continue to grow.
