Toll Discounts Granted to PUVs

Public utility vehicles will soon get relief from rising transport costs as more toll operators roll out discount programs starting March 23, the Department of Transportation announced.

The initiative will cover major expressways, including CAVITEX, R1 Expressway Extension, Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway, and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway.

Eligible PUVs—such as jeepneys, buses, and freight trucks—can receive rebates that effectively lower toll costs, with savings reaching up to ₱197 depending on vehicle classification.

The program will be implemented through rebate schemes led by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, including the KaBiyahe Rebate Program and other existing discount initiatives.

To qualify, operators must be registered with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and comply with program requirements, including maintaining valid electronic toll accounts.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the move aims to ease the burden on drivers and commuters, especially as fuel prices continue to climb.

The discounts will initially run for two months and may be extended depending on its impact.
