House Resumes VP Sara’s Impeachment Hearings

The House Committee on Justice is set to resume formal hearings on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, moving forward with the next phase of deliberations.

Committee chair Gerville Luistro said lawmakers will begin evaluating the merits of the cases under the fourth step of the impeachment process starting March 25, even as Congress goes on recess.

The panel earlier ruled that the complaints are sufficient in form, substance, and grounds, clearing the way for a deeper review of the allegations.

Following this stage, the committee will determine whether there is probable cause—a decision that, if supported by a majority of its members, would elevate the case to the House plenary and eventually to a Senate trial.

Luistro also cautioned that failure by Duterte to participate in the proceedings could leave the accusations unanswered, potentially speeding up the process.
