PIA partners with youth for 2025 elections

MANILA, Philippines - The "Kilos Kabataan: Makibahagi sa Halalan 2025" virtual forum was organized by the Philippine Information Agency's Central Luzon office in cooperation with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the National Youth Commission (NYC) in advance of the 2025 National and Local Elections.

The goal of this program was to inform young voters about the election process and the consequences of voting. During this first session, students from the University of the Assumption and National University Clark participated enthusiastically.

Rose Chell Anne Austria, the head of the NYC Pampanga Area Office, pointed out that there are roughly 31.77 million Filipino youth between the ages of 15 and 30. This group is separated into: Child Youth (15-17 years old): 19.5%; Core Youth (18-24 years old): 44.5%; and Young Adults (25-30 years old): 35.9%.

Notably, the greatest section is made up of core youth, who are of voting age. Central Luzon, the National Capital Region, and CALABARZON are home to the majority of this population.

Lydia Florentino-Pangilinan, the provincial election supervisor for Comelec Pampanga, highlighted the significant impact of young voters, who make up between 50% and 60% of the electorate.

Given their combined ability to influence the destiny of the country, she asked them to cast thoughtful ballots. Additionally, Pangilinan pushed for leaders who were dedicated to real improvement and challenged the power of established politicians by encouraging young people to think about leadership responsibilities.

She issued a warning against vote-buying tactics, emphasizing the long-term effects of such behavior on public welfare and government.
