Palace: no special treatment for Atong Ang amid kidnapping with homicide case
Malacañang clarified that businessman Atong Ang is not receiving any special treatment as the kidnapping with homicide case involving several missing sabungeros continues to move forward in the legal system.
The clarification came after the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it found sufficient basis to pursue charges related to the disappearance of individuals linked to online cockfighting operations. According to the Palace, the administration remains firm that all cases must proceed based solely on evidence gathered through proper investigation.
Officials stressed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has consistently emphasized the importance of due process, noting that premature investigations without adequate proof could unfairly target innocent people. The Palace reiterated that the government’s role is to ensure that cases are handled objectively, regardless of the personalities involved.
The case has now been elevated to the courts, which the Palace says removes the matter from executive influence. With this, they noted that assumptions about preferential treatment for Ang have no factual basis.
The DOJ’s earlier findings form part of the broader investigation into the missing sabungeros, a case that has drawn widespread national attention. Authorities continue to coordinate efforts as they work toward resolving the incidents and holding accountable those found responsible.
