'Mail-order bride' rescued in NAIA
MANILA, Philippines – A 22-year-old Filipino woman involved in an alleged "mail-order bride" scheme was recently rescued by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The woman was inducted into the scheme by foreigners online and was set to board a flight to Shanghai, China after being paid Php. 50,000.
Authorities approached the woman as they found discrepancies in her flight details and documents when she attempted to leave the country claiming that she was visiting her husband in China.
The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking took her into custody for further investigation and filing of appropriate charges.
