Erwin Tulfo clarifies the decision not to impeach VP Sara
MANILA, Philippines - Representative Erwin Tulfo of the ACT-CIS Partylist gave an explanation for his decision to not sign the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Tulfo, a 2025 senatorial candidate, stated that he wished to remain unbiased, particularly if elected.
He underlined that his choice must be impartial and free from any prior influence if he is appointed senator-judge during the impeachment hearing.
In a statement shared on Facebook, he made it clear that rendering a just verdict based on the facts used in the trial is his first concern.
On Wednesday, 215 members of the House of Representatives voted in favor of impeaching Duterte.
The Senate then received the Articles of Impeachment, but it adjourned without debating them.
Senate President Francis Escudero affirmed that when the Senate meets again following the May elections, business will start in June.
Other members of Tulfo's family signed the complaint, but he did not.
Both his nephew, Quezon City Representative Ralph Wendell Tulfo, and sister-in-law, ACT-CIS Representative Jocelyn Tulfo, signed a letter endorsing the impeachment.
