DILG Offers P1-M Reward for Arrest of Suspects in Bulacan Slay Case
The Department of the Interior and Local Government is offering a P1 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Mon Salamat and six other suspects in the killing of Police Staff Sergeant Renato Casauay Jr. in Bulacan.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the suspects must be captured and held accountable for the brutal killing of Casauay, described as a decorated officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Group. Authorities said Salamat is considered a high-value individual and was last seen in Felicissima Village in Barangay Mojon, Malolos City.
Police Region Office 3 Director PBGen. Ponce Rogelio Penones Jr. said Casauay went to the area on January 24 to meet a “police asset.” Minutes later, multiple gunshots were heard, and the suspect later identified as Salamat fled the scene.
According to reports, Salamat allegedly admitted to PCpl. Vivencio Abalos that he shot and killed Casauay. However, Abalos did not arrest him and instead allegedly allowed him to escape.
On January 30, operatives from PRO3, Malolos City Police Station, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Group, and Scene of the Crime Operatives processed the crime scene with the help of a witness identified as alias “Mark,” who pointed to a septic tank where Casauay’s body was dumped.
Casauay was positively identified by his wife through his personal belongings. The following day, January 31, police arrested the homeowner, Oliver Mauricio. Authorities said the crime scene was only a few meters from the house, yet the incident was not reported.
Police continue to conduct manhunt operations against the remaining suspects.
