DPWH Taps Top Contractors to Fast-Track Maharlika Highway Rehab
The Department of Public Works and Highways plans to bring in the country’s biggest and most reputable contractors to handle the rehabilitation of the Maharlika Highway, in a move aimed at speeding up work and ensuring quality.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the strategy is meant to guarantee faster and higher-standard construction for what is considered one of the country’s most important road networks.
The plan follows the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to complete the rehabilitation of the Maharlika Highway within two years.
Dizon said the agency will no longer tap small contractors for the project and will instead engage established firms for the upgrade of what he described as the economic backbone of the country. He added that he has already spoken with several major contractors and intends to meet with them soon.
“I spoke to them, I want to meet them maybe this week or next week and they have expressed interest to help out in the major projects, the priorities of the President, the highest priority of which is Daang Maharlika,” dagdag pa ni Dizon.
The rehabilitation of the Maharlika Highway has earlier been identified as one of the government’s priority infrastructure projects for the year. Authorities are targeting completion of the project by 2027.
