Angeles City opens Central Luzon's first solar-powered public school

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga - With the opening of Central Luzon's first solar-powered, air-conditioned public school, Angeles City is creating history.

Under the direction of Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin Jr., the city-funded Belen Homesite Elementary School opened on March 6.

The school has 54 solar panels that provide 32 kilowatts of energy, which powers seven classrooms with televisions and air conditioners.

Mayor Lazatin underlined that this innovative concept demonstrates that public institutions can adopt clean energy solutions.

He claimed that "Angeles City is setting the standard for renewable energy, demonstrating that we can preserve the environment while lowering our reliance on expensive fossil fuels."

The P3 million-worth school restoration, which featured new paint, tiles, and fittings, is evidence that public schools can be improved when multiple government entities work together.

The solar program extends beyond educational institutions. All city government buildings, barangay halls, and rural health facilities now have solar panels installed under the Lazatin administration.

In addition, the city's primary and secondary highways are now illuminated by 1,500 solar-powered lighting.

The city anticipates yearly electricity savings of P100 million by switching to renewable energy, which Mayor Lazatin characterizes as both economical and ecologically responsible.
