Viber unveils dating service, e-wallet feature

MANILA, Philippines - Viber, the messaging app owned by Rakuten, is expanding its services to become a comprehensive platform by introducing Viber Dating and an upcoming e-wallet feature.

The said service allows users to find matches within the app, addressing privacy concerns by keeping dating profiles separate from regular messaging accounts and ensuring phone numbers remain confidential.

This feature was partially developed in the Philippines, one of Viber's most active markets, where there is a high usage of various dating apps, indicating an openness to new experiences, according to CEO Ofir Eyal.

Viber plans to launch ViberPay—an e-wallet feature, later this year, allowing users to send money directly within the app. Future updates will include QRPH payments, card integration, and international transfers.

Viber is working on securing the required licenses to offer these services.
