CFOS hosts fellowships, symposium for non-teaching staff

The first-ever symposium and fellowship for non-teaching staff organized by the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) was conducted at the Pidlaoan Hall inside the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Miagao campus.

The event aims to encourage cooperation and well-being among administrative staff, researchers, and project-based employees.

The symposium's highlight is a presentation by Mr. Jhio Jan Navarro, a professor in the Division of Social Sciences at UPV, titled "Mindful Communication for Workplace Well-being." Navarro underlined the significance of mindfulness in professional communication, which involves paying attention to what is said, how it is communicated, and how it affects connections with others.

To equip participants with the means to cultivate a constructive and fruitful work environment, he also offered advice on how to avoid making unhelpful complaints, give constructive criticism, and engage in active listening.

Prof. Dr. Harold Monteclaro, dean of CFOS, opened the occasion by stressing the significance of these programs for worker welfare. After the thought-provoking conversation, guests took part in enjoyable fellowship activities, such as cooperative games and a raffle that gave the day a lively and joyous feel.

The ceremony came to an end with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Administration, Asst. Prof. Dr. Farisal Ungkakay-Bagsit praised CFOS for its accomplishments in 2024.

In addition to providing participants with useful skills, the symposium and fellowship enhanced CFOS's sense of belonging and camaraderie, opening the door for future projects that promote holistic well-being.
