Self-proclaimed son of God returns to Pasig jail
MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) reported that Apollo Quiboloy, televangelist and Senate candidate, has returned to the Pasig City Jail Male Dormitory following treatment for pneumonia.
After weeks of illness that started on January 18 when he was hospitalized at Rizal Medical Center for lung problems, BJMP J/Supt. Jayrex Bustinera announced Quiboloy's return at Pasig City General Hospital, where medical professionals determined that he had Stage 2 hypertension and moderate-risk community-acquired pneumonia.
While recovering, Quiboloy, who is running for a Senate seat in the 2025 midterm elections, was granted permission by the Pasig Regional Trial Court to record video messages for key campaign events.
These included the Kingdom of Jesus Christ gathering on February 9, his proclamation rally on February 11, and the PDP-Laban senatorial grand rally on February 13.
In his video message aired at his rally in Pasig’s Ynares Gym, Quiboloy framed his candidacy as a divine mission, saying, “Itong lahat ay may basbas at may kalooban ng Dakilang Ama kaya ako ay nagpapasalamat… hindi man natin nauunawaan sa simula ngunit ang direksyon ay papunta doon.”
Amid this campaign activity, Quiboloy faces serious charges, including child abuse, sexual abuse, and human trafficking in both the Philippines and the U.S., which he has denied. The Pasig court denied his request for a live media interview, citing concerns about judicial impartiality while underscoring his right to campaign within regulated limits.
