5-Year Validity for New Vehicle Registrations Approved

Motorists buying brand-new vehicles will soon enjoy a longer registration period after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved a proposal extending the validity of new motor vehicle registration from three years to five.

Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro said the President gave the “initially approved” go-signal after the proposal was presented by Department of Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez during a meeting in Malacañang.

With the approval in place, the DOTr is expected to release a memorandum formalizing the expanded registration validity.

Aside from the vehicle registration update, Lopez also briefed the President on ongoing transport improvements aimed at making commuting easier. These include the rehabilitation of facilities at the MRT-3 Quezon Avenue station, the continued rollout of cashless payment systems in MRT-3, and the upcoming implementation of similar systems in LRT-1 and LRT-2. Repairs on additional Dalian trains for MRT-3 operations were also tackled.

President Marcos reiterated that commuter safety and comfort remain top priorities, stressing the importance of cleaner facilities and a dependable train system.
