DepEd, Nestlé PH strengthen partnership to boost student's nutrition, wellness

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) has reaffirmed its partnership with Nestlé Philippines to promote nutrition education among Filipino students.

Through the Nestlé Wellness Campus Program, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara underlined that the partnership is more than simply a contract; it is a dedication to the future of the nation's youth. "Together, we aim to nurture champions in sports, academics, and life," said Angara.

The said program, which was introduced in 2013, aims to teach kids healthy behaviors by offering modules for Grades 1–10 that emphasize reading food labels, physical activity, and nutrition. Additionally, the curriculum incorporates exercises like the Wellness Song and Dance to encourage instructors, parents, and kids to be physically fit. Numerous regions, including the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Bicol, Eastern, Central, and Western Visayas, North Mindanao, and Davao, have seen the implementation of this plan.

In a recent visit to Taguig Integrated School, Angara, along with officials from DepEd, Nestlé, and Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, expressed support for the program wherein, the DepEd secretary engaged with local DepEd officials and inspected the school's "Gulayan sa Paaralan," an initiative that complements the wellness program by promoting sustainable agriculture and healthy eating habits among students.

This partnership underscores the shared commitment of DepEd and Nestlé Philippines to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed dietary choices, supporting their overall well-being and future success.
