Alcantara to Testify vs Zaldy Co in Flood Control Case
A key witness is set to take the stand in the graft and malversation case against fugitive former lawmaker Zaldy Co over an allegedly flawed flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.
Government prosecutors told the Sandiganbayan that former district engineer Henry Alcantara will testify as a state witness during hearings scheduled on March 24.
Alcantara, previously assigned to the Department of Public Works and Highways in Bulacan, is among those admitted into the government’s witness protection program in connection with the case.
He and contractor Sally Santos were earlier removed as respondents after agreeing to cooperate with authorities.
The case involves a P289.5-million flood control project in Naujan, which prosecutors allege was substandard.
Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the government is pursuing all legal means to bring Co back to the country to face trial.
