COMELEC rolls out nationwide checkpoints, gun ban

Five months before the 2025 midterm election, the Commission on Election (Comelec) has begun implementing heightened security protocols, including gun ban and checkpoints nationwide to prevent election-related violence.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia reminds the public that during the 90-day election period, carrying or transporting deadly weapons—unless authorized in writing by the Commission—is prohibited.

The Comelec, along with additional commands from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, and Philippine Coast Guard, will man checkpoints and require motorists to slow down to check their compliance with the prohibition on bearing any deadly weapon.

These prohibitions will remain in effect until June 11, 2025, which is 30 days after the so-called “super elections” for national and local officials, as well as the first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary, Barangay, and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
