Grade 11 students build prototype device for color vision-deficient people
MANILA, Philippines – Grade 11 students of Batangas State University presented a prototype device named "TACO" or The Art of Collaboration, an automated painting system made with eco-friendly materials.
The device aims to solve the problem of diminishing interest in art as three million people struggle with color vision deficiency.
Rechargeable batteries power the prototype and feature color detectors and smart paint mixers that produce instant paint for users. The inventors plan to expand the ability of the color sensors to widen the shade of colors that the machine can process.
Color vision deficiency or color blindness is the inability to distinguish certain shades of color. Statistics show that one out of twelve boys and one out of twenty girls in the Philippines have color vision deficiency.
