TRB reinstates mandatory cashless toll collection on March 15
MANILA, Philippines—The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) will reintroduce the required cashless toll collection system on all expressways on March 15.
According to TRB, installing Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) devices or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags in their vehicles will be necessary for drivers to improve traffic flow and lessen congestion at toll plazas by reducing cash transactions.
Motorists without valid RFIDs will be permitted entry but will receive a Temporary Operator’s Permit or a Show Cause Order for non-compliance with the 'No Valid ETC Device, No Entry' policy.
The policy was suspended in September for technical improvements and public adjustment. With 97% of motorists now using ETC devices, toll operators are ready to enforce it again. Meanwhile, TRB urges the remaining 3% to switch to RFID for a smoother experience and remind all users to keep their accounts funded.
