PNP to Deploy Over 70,000 Police Officers for Simbang Gabi Nationwide
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced the deployment of more than 70,000 police personnel nationwide to ensure safety and order during the traditional Simbang Gabi celebrations.
PNP Acting Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force is fully prepared, with strengthened security measures that include foot patrols, checkpoints, and mobile units. Police officers will be stationed at major churches and other crowded areas across the country throughout the nine-day Misa de Gallo, which runs from December 16 to December 24.
Nartatez also said the PNP has intensified coordination with local government units, barangay officials, and church authorities to ensure proper crowd management and preparedness for any emergencies.
Police visibility will be heightened to deter crimes such as theft and pickpocketing, while personnel will also assist in managing traffic flow in areas with large gatherings. Fire hazards and other emergency situations will likewise be closely monitored.
“We are also vigilant against potential fire hazards and other emergencies. Kaya naman, our personnel will be visibly deployed and patrolling the vicinities of churches and surrounding streets,” Nartatez said.
“We are ready and we are committed to contributing to the meaningful Christmas to everybody through improved peace and order measures,” he added.
The PNP chief also urged churchgoers to remain alert, immediately report any suspicious activity to authorities, and strictly follow traffic laws.
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will deploy 23,218 personnel in churches and popular public areas across Metro Manila. The deployment includes force multipliers and augmentation from other government agencies, according to NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo.
The PNP said the extensive deployment aims to ensure that the Simbang Gabi tradition remains peaceful, orderly, and safe for millions of Filipinos nationwide.
