Diesel Jumps ₱12/L as New Fuel Price Hikes Take Effect
Motorists are facing another sharp increase at the pumps this week, with diesel prices surging by as much as ₱12.90 per liter amid continued volatility in the global oil market.
Major oil companies, including Shell and Jetti Petroleum, raised diesel prices by ₱12.90 per liter, while PetroGazz, Seaoil, and UniOil implemented increases of around ₱12.50 per liter. This brings diesel prices in Metro Manila to an estimated range of ₱117.50 to ₱144.80 per liter, with common pump prices now hovering around ₱131 to ₱132 per liter.
Gasoline prices also went up, though at a slower pace. Adjustments ranged from ₱1.00 to ₱2.90 per liter, pushing RON95 gasoline prices to roughly ₱86.00 to ₱111.80 per liter, with typical prices settling between ₱100 and ₱112 per liter.
Kerosene likewise saw moderate increases of ₱2.00 to ₱2.40 per liter, raising prices to an estimated ₱142.00 to ₱169.19 per liter, further adding pressure on households relying on the fuel.
The latest round of hikes comes as the government continues to secure additional fuel supply to stabilize the domestic market. The Department of Energy confirmed the arrival of around 22.58 million liters (142,000 barrels) of diesel, part of its emergency procurement efforts.
Meanwhile, Petron has acquired 2.48 million barrels of crude oil from Russia, which is expected to help sustain its operations until June. Officials said these supply measures aim to cushion the impact of rising global oil prices, even as consumers continue to bear the brunt of higher fuel costs.
