Maris Racal welcomes new year with new song after cheating controversy

MANILA, Philippines — To start her year with new and strong beginnings, actress and singer Maris Racal released a new single titled 'Perpektong Tao" on Friday, January 17, after maintaining a low profile following last year's cheating controversy with on-screen partner Anthony Jennings, which put the social media into a hubbub. 

Racal's Thursday Instagram post has again caused a stir among online users. In her post, the Kapamilya actress teased her 7.7 million followers with the announcement of the release date of her latest song. "Writing this song healed me in ways I never thought possible. It was born from a journey through pain, regret, and the courage to seek forgiveness, a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we can find light," Racal wrote in a post. 

In December 2024, Racal and Jennings, who fans call MaThon, made news in the entertainment industry when the actor's ex-girlfriend Jamela Villanueva revealed the two's alleged affair by posting private and intimate talks between them on Instagram stories.

After taking a social media hiatus throughout the scandal, Racal later apologized in public and assured followers that she would continue with her life despite the commotion.

The on-screen love team appeared in public for the first time this January at a mall fan event for their next action series, "Incognito."
