SM Retail partners with MPower to go 100% renewable energy
MANILA, Philippines - SM Retail, Inc. has made a significant environmentally friendly move by collaborating with MPower—Manila Electric Co.'s (Meralco) renewable energy division, to power its biggest locations in Metro Manila entirely with renewable energy.
This said initiative includes supplying green energy to SM Retail's headquarters in Pasay City, aligning the company with global environmental standards.
“SM Retail now stands among our valued customers to benefit from MPower’s competitively priced renewable energy portfolio. As a reflection of our commitment to sustainability, we will continue our efforts to meet the growing demand for renewable energy supply in the contestable market,” said Redel M. Domingo, Meralco’s first vice-president and head of MPower as he reaffirmed MPower's commitment to meeting the growing demand for clean energy in the competitive electricity market on Wednesday interview.
Through this agreement, eligible power users consuming 500 kilowatts or more can choose energy providers that meet their demands under the Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM). SM Retail Vice President Luis Larva, emphasized that the action is consistent with SM's commitment to lessening its environmental impact while upholding its social obligations.
By transitioning its facilities to renewable energy, SM Retail demonstrates its leadership in sustainability and innovation, paving the way for greener business practices in the Philippine retail industry.
