Meralco, KEPCO strengthen partnership to advance energy innovation, smart technology

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has expanded its partnership with Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) to advance the adoption of innovative energy technologies.

The two companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on key areas such as nuclear energy, renewable energy, smart grids, electric vehicles, and distribution automation.

As the Philippines’ largest private power distributor, Meralco aims to leverage KEPCO’s expertise—South Korea’s largest electric utility—to enhance its technical capabilities and energy solutions.

Additionally, the two will work together on technical training, knowledge sharing, and consulting to improve energy solutions. Their partnership builds on past efforts in smart metering, which helps consumers and providers communicate in real-time.

Meralco CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said this collaboration strengthens their business and supports a smarter, more reliable energy future.
