Megawide's 1.87B Cavite BRT partial operation to start in September

MANILA, Philippines – Megawide Construction Corporation announced in an interview last week the partial operations of the P1.87-billion Cavite Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project are set to begin in September this year.

According to Edgar B. Saavedra, President and CEO of Megawide, the said construction will begin in the second quarter where the first phase will cover lines from the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) to Imus and Trece Martires.

The project assures commuters of a quicker and more comfortable mode of transportation wherein, with its designated lanes and planned trips, the concept is intended to drastically shorten travel times—even during peak hours—by 50–60%. Although it will take around two years for the facilities to be fully completed, Saavedra stated that operations will start sooner and use temporary bus sheds to accommodate passengers. Starting with an expected 10,000 riders per day, the system hopes to serve up to 50,000 passengers per day over the next few years.

Megawide and property developer Maplecrest Group, Inc. collaborated on this Cavite BRT project, which runs 42 kilometers and connects Imus, General Trias, Tanza, Kawit, Trece Martires, and the neighboring districts. It also links Cavite to Metro Manila via the PITX, making it easier for commuters. The project, which was secured through a joint venture with the Cavite provincial government, demonstrates the potential for public-private partnerships to upgrade transportation infrastructure and promote local economies.
