DTI, Jollibee partner to drive sustainability, reduce waste in fast-food industry
MANILA - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) have entered into a partnership to promote sustainability and reduce waste within the fast-food sector.
On March 5, they launched "Project 2.0: Bee Earth’s Best Friends—A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles" to promote sustainability in daily consumer choices and strengthen environmental and economic resilience. This initiative aligns with World Consumer Rights Day, emphasizing the growing problem of plastic pollution from single-use utensils.
DTI Undersecretary for Regional Operations Group Blesila Lantayona emphasized the agency's responsibility to protect Filipino consumers' interests by guiding them toward informed and sustainable consumption.
As part of the campaign, Jollibee urges customers to refuse to use throwaway cutlery while placing drive-thru or takeout orders. Customers who choose to opt out will receive vouchers that can be used to get freebies like a Yum Burger after the fifth order and a free juice upgrade after the third.
JFC's Assistant Vice President of Trade Marketing Group Eloisa Anne Siccion, stated that the goal is to foster long-term behavioral change rather than merely offering a promotion.
Following a successful 2023 pilot in Batangas, Project 2.0 is expanding across South Luzon, involving DTI's CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Bicol Region offices, alongside 280 Jollibee stores.
